Handling Numbers, Statistics and Economic Jargon in Speed Dictation
Capturing Figures Without Dropping Words Writing out "Forty-five crore eighty-two lakh rupees" in full English words during a 100 WPM dictation is virtually impossible. The Shorthand Number Convention Crores: Write the numeral with an intersecting 'K' stroke below (e.g., 45 with 'K' underneath = 45 Crores). Lakhs: Write the numeral with an intersecting 'L' stroke (e.g., 82 with 'L' = 82 Lakhs). Percent: Use the standard % symbol or a small circle next to the numeral.
Decision guide
If the problem is recognition, use short recall drills. If it is hand or keyboard control, slow the movement and repeat it. If it is spelling or formatting, compare against a trusted source. If it appears only under time pressure, add timed work in small increments.
| Problem type | First response |
